# Updating Studies, Study Countries, and Study Sites

## Managing a Site's Ability to Collect PII

Sites using Veeva eCOA collect personally identifiable information (PII) for participants by default, and internal users cannot access PII collected by sites. However, study countries can be configured so that all study sites in those countries are prevented from collecting email, phone number, name, and date of birth for study participants in Veeva eCOA.

      <p><strong>Important</strong>: When PII collection is restricted, the following limitations apply:</p>
<ul>
    <li>Participants can only register for MyVeeva in the Android or iOS mobile app. They can only log in using biometrics or a PIN instead of username and password.</li>
    <li>Participants are prevented from storing PII in MyVeeva, including contact information, usernames, and password.</li>
    <li>Once registered, participants cannot log in to the MyVeeva web application, because their biometric- or PIN-based access is specific to the mobile app.</li>
    <li>User access cannot be verified using date of birth when participants do in-person surveys at a site.</li>

If sites in the country should not collect personally identifiable information (PII), complete the following steps to prevent sites from collecting PII:

1. Open the study country.
2. Expand the **Additional Site Settings** section, select **None** from the Site PII Collected list, and select **Save**.

      <p><strong>Note</strong>: If the country is China, <strong>None</strong> is selected by default and cannot be changed. Sites in China are never allowed to collect PII.</p>

## Updating a Study

1. In the Studies tab, open your study and select the **Edit** button (<i class="far fa-pen"></i>).
2. Update the information, and select **Save**.

The study is updated.

## Updating a Study Country

1. In the Studies tab, open your study.
2. Expand the Study Countries tab and select the country.
3. Select the **Edit** button (<i class="far fa-pen"></i>).
4. Update the information, and select **Save**.

The study country is updated. 

## Updating a Study Site

1. In the Studies tab, select your study.
2. Expand the Study Sites tab and select the site.
3. Select the **Edit** button (<i class="far fa-pen"></i>).
4. Update the information, and select **Save**.

The study site is updated.
