# Managing a Temporary Screening ID

The study can be configured to require a temporary screening ID. The system will use the screening ID as the participant identifier until the site assigns a participant ID to the participant.

**Important**: This setting cannot be removed once it has been deployed to production.

Complete the following steps to require a screening ID:
1. Open the collection and go to the **Screening ID** tab.
2. Select **Enabled**.
3. Configure an event to trigger a participant ID assignment. The study version will not be able to start UAT until an event is configured to prompt the site to set a participant ID.
